About Us

Who is the Swiss Cavalry Squadron 1972 today?

The Swiss Cavalry Squadron 1972 is a military, non-service association, which as a traditional unit is under the honorary patronage of the Chief of the General Staff/Chief of the Army.

The purpose of the association is to preserve the cavalry tradition and to preserve and pass on the knowledge of the former dragoons to future generations. There are currently around 360 active and passive members involved in the Swiss Cavalry Squadron 1972.

It appears at public, civil and military events in the uniform and equipment (including weapons) of the Swiss Cavalry as it was disbanded in 1972.

It maintains the stored material in the Aarau Armoury and organizes guided tours through these interesting, historical rooms upon request.

And this is how you can support the Swiss Cavalry Squadron 1972:

Through donations

Through membership (active/passive/sponsor member)

By delivering cavalry material

If you still have material from the time of the cavalry at home, the squadron will be happy to accept it, e.g. photographic material, clothing, weapons, horse equipment (saddles, bridles, bridles, etc.), badges, service books, awards, etc. All of the material as well as numerous important memorabilia and documents are stored in the Aarau Armory. They are looked after, preserved for posterity and made available to the squadron members for performances.
